What is a Generation?

A generation is a group of people born and living during the same time period who share similar experiences, technology, culture, lifestyle, and ways of thinking. Different generations are shaped by the events and technology of their time, which influence how they learn, communicate, and live.

Simple Meaning:

Generation ka matlab hota hai ek aisa group of people jo same time period me born  hue hote hain aur jinki thinking, lifestyle, experiences aur technology use karne ka tarika milta-julta hota hai.

Example:

  • You and your school friends belong to almost the same generation.

  • Your parents may belong to a different generation.

  • Your grandparents belong to a much older generation.


📚 Types of Generations

Up to the present time (2026), researchers commonly recognize six major generations based on birth years, lifestyle, technology, and social influences.




✦ 01. Silent Generation (1928–1945) 

Grew up during difficult times like World War II. 
Believed in hard work and following rules.
Known for discipline and respect.













✦ 02. Baby Boomers (1946–1964) 

Born after World War II.
Loyal to jobs and valued stability.
Grew up with radio and black & white TV.









✦ 03. Generation X (1965–1980)


Known for independent thinking.
Saw the rise of computers.
Focused on work-life balance.








✦ 04. Millennials / Generation Y (1981–1996)

Grew up with the internet.
Interested in education and careers.
Active on social media.









✦ 05. Generation Z (1997–2012)


Digital generation.
Uses smartphones and online education.
Fast learners and technology-friendly.










✦ 06. Generation Alpha (2013–Present)

Growing up with AI and smart devices.
Most technology-advanced generation.
Learning through tablets and digital tools.

Every generation is different because technology, society, and lifestyle change over time. These changes affect how people think, learn, and live.
